Connect an aggregate count to recorded activity
A total visitor count can show a trend, but individual activity provides context. Inspect the pages and events associated with an anonymous visitor, then open a session to follow the order of actions.
Choose how identity works
Private mode estimates visitors with identities scoped to a website and day, without cookies or browser storage. Product mode stores first-party anonymous and session identity in local storage and supports optional identification after sign-in. Handle consent where required.

What to keep in mind
An anonymous visitor is not a verified person. Product mode does not merge anonymous identities across devices, and Private-mode identities do not persist across days. Do not interpret either count as a precise count of unique humans.
Do I have to send an email address to identify a user?
No. Use a stable internal user ID when you need identification. Avoid sending email addresses or other personal information that your analytics does not require.
