# Ask your analytics from Claude or Cursor

Updated November 5, 2026

Short answer

Tracwell is product analytics with its own MCP server. Add https\://tracwell.app/mcp to Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT, Amp or VS Code, sign in, and pick the websites your agent can see. Then ask which pages and sources bring signups and revenue. The agent reads the same data as your dashboard, so the answers match.

## Who it is for

- Indie founders and small teams who already work in Claude, Cursor or Codex.
- Products that want traffic, signups and revenue in one place, without building reports by hand.

It is not the right fit if you only want Google Analytics 4, or if you need session replay, feature flags or experiments. PostHog covers those; Tracwell does not.

## What you can ask

- Which sources brought paying customers last week?
- Which pages lead to signups?
- Where do people drop off between pricing and checkout?
- Compare visitors and conversion over the last 7 days.
- Create a funnel from /pricing to checkout.

The agent calls Tracwell tools for overview, acquisition, journeys, goals, funnels and revenue, and returns links to the matching report in your dashboard.

## What the agent can and cannot do

- Reading reports is always on, only for the websites you pick.
- Creating and editing goals, funnels and chart notes is optional. You turn it on when you approve the connection.
- Some clients can also ask to add websites. That is a separate option, and new websites count toward your plan.
- It can never delete data or change your settings, team or billing.
- Only workspace owners can approve a connection. You can revoke it any time in Settings → MCP.

## Set it up in a minute

Every client uses the same server URL, https\://tracwell.app/mcp, and signs in to Tracwell in your browser. You then choose a workspace, websites and access.

Cursor: add Tracwell to your MCP config. Cursor asks you to sign in the first time it uses Tracwell.

Cursor · \~/.cursor/mcp.json

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tracwell": { "url": "https://tracwell.app/mcp" }
  }
}
```

Claude Code: add the server from your terminal. Then run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Authenticate.

Claude Code · Terminal

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user tracwell https://tracwell.app/mcp
```

Codex: add the server, then log in. The login command opens Tracwell in your browser to approve the connection.

Codex · Terminal

```bash
codex mcp add tracwell --url https://tracwell.app/mcp
codex mcp login tracwell
```

1. Claude desktop and claude.ai: open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
2. Name it Tracwell and enter https\://tracwell.app/mcp.
3. Select Add, then Connect. Sign in to Tracwell and choose websites and access.

The MCP docs have the full steps for ChatGPT, Amp, VS Code and API keys.

## Revenue and MCP on the same plan

Every paid plan includes the Analytics API, MCP and revenue attribution. Starter is $9 a month for 300K events, 5 websites and 1 seat. New workspaces get a 7-day free trial with no card, and MCP works during the trial.

Revenue attribution needs Product mode and verified purchase and refund events sent from your server. The revenue docs have examples for Stripe, Dodo Payments and Polar. Payments without a matching visit are still counted, as unattributed revenue.

## How it compares

Tracwell compared with DataFast, PostHog and Google Analytics for agent access and revenue.

| Capability              | Tracwell                      | DataFast  | PostHog                                    | Google Analytics     |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------- | --------- | ------------------------------------------ | -------------------- |
| MCP access for AI tools | Every paid plan               | Available | Hosted · read & write                      | Self-run · read-only |
| Revenue attribution | Product mode · backend events | Available | Revenue properties; build your own reports | Ecommerce setup |
| Analytics API | Every paid plan | Available | Available | Data API |

Competitor details come from their public docs, as listed on each compare page. Not documented means we could not confirm it, not that the tool cannot do it. Check current plans before choosing.

## Frequently asked questions

**Which AI tools work with Tracwell?**

Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in, including Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT, Amp and VS Code. Tools that cannot sign in can use an API key instead.

**Does my agent see the same numbers as the dashboard?**

Yes. The dashboard, the API and MCP read the same data, limited to the websites you approved.

**Can the agent delete my data?**

No. There are no MCP tools to delete data or change settings, team or billing. Writes are limited to goals, funnels and chart notes, and only when you allow them.

**Do I need a paid plan?**

MCP needs an active plan or the free trial. If a plan expires, your dashboard history stays, but MCP stops working until you renew.
